Polyurethane foam systems
Market overview
Polyurethane foams are also used in insulated panels for construction, doors, cold transport, and cold storage. In cold transportation, Forane® FBA 1233zd can provide required thermal properties with thinner wall insulation resulting in increased storage capacity.
By developing the appropriate formulations to meet product and cost expectations, which can be a complex and time-consuming endeavor, system houses provide their expertise to end-users in order to assist them with satisfying their product requirements. Arkema, with our technical relationships with all of the major polyurethane foam components suppliers, can offer a broad range of assistance in the use of our blowing agents for customers’ partially or fully compounded systems.
Recently, hydrofluoroolefins (HFOs) were developed as fourth-generation blowing agents for PU systems. HFOs are more environmentally friendly than any of the earlier generations and have shown superior performance, in terms of insulation value to either HCs or HFCs and to some extent, HCFCs. This is especially true for the HFO product, Forane® FBA 1233zd or trans 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene.
