Data Center Cooling
Which Forane® Refrigerants are used in Data Centers?
While the industry initially adopted legacy refrigerants products like Forane® 134a, the future of data center cooling is dependent on lower GWP, regulatory compliant refrigerants.
Forane® 32 and Forane® 454B have both been adopted as lower GWP options for chillers. Each offers strong thermal properties as a replacement in applications that traditionally used R-410A.
Forane® 513A is a lower GWP replacement of R-134a in chillers, with a global warming potential (GWP) of 631. Forane® 513A is SNAP -approved and non-flammable (A1).
Forane® Heat Transfer Solution (HTS) 1233zd is a muti-application solution for both chillers and for Two-Phase, Direct-To-Chip Cooling.
Why are Forane® 32, Forane® 454B and Forane® 513A used in Data Centers?
Simple. Forane® 32, Forane® 454B and Forane® 513A offer a balance of performance, safety, and global regulatory compliance that make them excellent choices for data center air cooling. Data centers require a massive amount of cooling to operate. By adopting lower GWP, more efficient refrigerants like Forane® 513A, operators can better comply with EPA and global F-gas rules while also improving capacity and performance.
Does Forane® 1233zd have more than one application in Data Centers construction and operation?
Yes! Forane® HTS 1233zd is an excellent option for chillers and two-phase direct-chip cooling because of its adaptability and low GWP.
Forane® Foam Blowing Agent (FBA) 1233zd is a valuable solution for spray foam insulation and roofing bringing superior thermal properties. Strong insulation can ensure more effective air cooling.
What products should be used for Two-Phase, Direct-To-Chip Cooling?
Microprocessors in artificial intelligence have a significant larger thermal design power (TDP). These chips need liquid cooling, and the most effective form is 2 phase Direct-To-Chip cooling using the evaporation of refrigerant to withdraw heat from these chips. Forane® HTS 1233zd is clearly a suitable solution for this technology, adopted by several OEMs.
Forane® HTS 1233zd for data center cooling, a non-flammable and non-toxic fluid, was designed as an invaluable option for managing the unique thermal challenges of your data center. Arkema maintains a strong and growing portfolio of global Forane® 1233zd patents/intellectual property.
