Arkema presents Forane® 516A, now commercially available as a design-compatible replacement for R-134a

To meet the growing demand for low global warming potential (1) refrigerants, Arkema launches Forane® 516A, a hydrofluoro-olefin (HFO) refrigerant blend that offers an optimal balance of properties as a replacement for R-134a in HVAC and Refrigeration applications. Forane® 516A is non-ozone depleting, EPA Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) Program-approved (2) and provides an excellent combination of performance and safety for equipment manufacturers and end users.

Forane® 516A highlights Arkema’s continued commitment to innovation in low-GWP refrigerants. By combining strong performance, energy efficiency, and a lower GWP, this new refrigerant helps customers prepare for the future of cooling while reinforcing Arkema’s strategic leadership in refrigerant technologies.”

Forane® 516A is ideal for new installations, to help customers meet increasingly strict regulations on refrigerants. With a GWP <150 and an A2L classification (3), Forane® 516A offers a zero glide (4), low-GWP solution which improves energy efficiency in many applications, including residential and light commercial cooling, chillers, and commercial refrigeration.

As demand grows for high-performance cooling solutions, Forane® 516A is also an attractive option for thermal management applications, including data center facility cooling systems, and high-temperature heat pumps where energy efficiency, environmental performance, and long-term regulatory compliance are increasingly important selection criteria.

With this announcement, Arkema expands its portfolio of low-GWP refrigerant gas solutions and reinforces its commitment to developing more efficient refrigerant options.
