Arkema today announced that the first shipments of Forane® 1233zd have been delivered to customers in North America. These first shipments serve as a beacon in the building and construction industry as the demand for low-GWP (global warming potential) products continues to increase.

The launch of Forane® 1233ZD in the North American market is pivotal in expanding the availability of spray foam and increasing sustainability in the building and construction market. This first shipment is one of many that will help Arkema better serve our customers and the environment.

1233zd optimizes performance and cost effectiveness in a variety of existing and new foam applications. When incorporated into insulating foam, this sustainable solution provides significant thermal insulation gain compared to existing solutions, thereby reducing energy consumption of residential and commercial buildings.

“Arkema is excited to supply 1233zd to the growing construction market. 1233zd is also applicable as a blowing agent for appliance foam manufacturing and panels for refrigerated transport and storage.  It also opens us up to new fields of applications in battery thermal management of electrical vehicles,” said René Molina, general manager of fluorospecialties business in the U.S. at Arkema. “Our team has worked for over a decade to bring our sustainable fluorochemical product to market and will continue to support our customers as they develop new and innovative ways to use it."

1233zd is part of the new generation of fluorospecialties with no or minimal emissive impact, aligned with Arkema’s sustainable development strategy to address global needs. The blowing agent has an ultra-low-global-warming-potential. It is also non-ozone depleting and exempt from VOC regulations.
