Tech Tips: Are your customers or suppliers switching to R-32? This is what you should expect to see in the field.

Are your customers or suppliers switching to R-32? This is what you should expect to see in the field.

It’s no secret that OEMs are contemplating the switch to R-32. Companies like Daikin have already made the move from R-410A. Here are 4 things to know about R-32 in the field.

  1. New labels - While it will look similar to R-410A, the primary visual difference between R-32 and R-410A systems will be the flammable labeling.
  2. Ratings on the compressor - The compressors rating will depend on the charge amount. A refrigerant detector could be located within the unit.
  3. Detailed installation guidelines – These will be supplied by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and must be followed very closely by the installation technician.
  4. Smaller system - It is possible the system will be physically smaller than a comparable R-410A system due to R-32’s increased capacity over the legacy refrigerant.
